Guanajuato Guanajuato Mexico Travel, a jewel of colonial Mexico Heartland
During my language school in Guadalajara, Mexico, in February of 2010 I spent 2.5 days in the beautiful mountain city in Guanajuato, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. After a round of 4 hours on a luxury bus from Guadalajara, I was in Guanajuato. Sujei and Robert, two of which were from the tourism of Guanajuato, my two local guides who showed me around this unique city. We started with a visit to Valencia Mine and the baroque church of the same name. Then we went to a local mountainis a monument to El Pipil, a local hero in the war of independence against Spain. From the top we had an absolutely wonderful view of the colorful houses of Guanajuato. After lunch we checked out the impressive buildings of the University and the Cathedral of Guanajuato, before returning to my hotel, the Quinta Las Acacias, where I had the opportunity to interview the owner of this beautiful boutique hotel. In a video tour I got to see many of the 22 unique rooms, and I heardinteresting stories about this over 100 year old building. Frida Kahlo, the famous Mexican painter, has a suite named after him. The next day Sujei led me to a local ceramics factory rewarded, where the owner of 75 years, gave us a tour of his vast output. Its products are shipped all over the world. As with all the Eyewitness travel books, this serves as our guide when we travel internationally. The Mexico book covers the entire country, with a very good overview of sites to see. We used this to plan our trip to Teotihuacan (which we took) and the Mayan ruins near the Yucatan peninsula (which we plan on seeing on a later trip). I think the only thing lacking is that restaurants in the area were not covered in enough detail.
Use this guide with online research/travel boards, and you will be able to plan the perfect trip!
