Eccentric London, 2nd (Bradt Travel Guide) Review
This book I found was really good for inspiring searches for different things in London. I used it quite extensively for a trip a few years ago. I did have some difficulty locating a few things which I originally attributed to inaccuracies on the part of the writer, but upon further investigation discovered that they did exist as he described them but that I was simply unable to find them (viz. Richard Burton’s Tomb in Mortlake, the mysterious Hill Garden in Hampstead Heath). I would advise the reader to research some of the items that he wishes to find on the internet before heading on a wild goose chase. A good supplement to this book is Andrew Duncan’s Walking London.

As the contributing editor for “Oregon” on Suite101,com, I’m always on the lookout for great books about Oregon. Best Places to Kiss in the Northwest is great for what it includes and should probably be broken into three separate books so that more places in Oregon, Wasington, and British Columcia can be featured.
I agree wholeheartedly with the picks included. There are just so many great restaurants and B abd B’s that are missing.
An entry in Bend, Oregon states that Bend is known better for outdoors kissing spots than cozy restaurants, yet I can name Kayo’s Dinner House, Le Bistro, and McGrath’s Fish House right off the bat that are left out.
In addition, I don’t know if this would be considered a best place to kiss in other people’s books, but growing up in Bend, the two best kissing spots were on top of Pilot Butte (might be closed to cars now) and Pioneer Park. Neither were included.
In Washington, Centralia’s got a very cozy B and B I’d love to go back to visit (no Centralis entries) and Ocean Shores isn’t even mentioned.
That said, the most annoying factor of the book is its organization. Within each section, (e.g., Vancouver and environs) towns are listed all higgledy piggledy! Ladner comes after West/North Vancouver, which is followed by Tsawwassen, then Point Roberts. It took me longer than it should have to find what I was looking for.
The write-ups are fair and show little bias. It is very journalistic, without any real personal stories. I really wanted to know why each spot was chosen.
What’s there is good and even great for some areas. It’s too bad there are gaps.

I’ve been to Florida a hundred times, but almost always to visit relatives, and so most visits were to non-descript corners. I bought this guide after hearing a frequent British visitor to the state tell me how much he loves Florida, in hopes of being able to see the place with new eyes.
These Eyewitness guides are terrific, of course, for their photos. But the writing is also first rate, and does a better job than other guides I’ve read of making destinations sound interesting. Finally, the series are written for non-Americans, and so have comments about the place and an orientation that American-made guides miss completely.

I am Serbian but have lived in the states for most of my life. When my husband and I took a trip this part fall, we decided to tour the country side for a week and escape the obligation of seeing relatives and friends. Best decision we ever made… particularly since it got us out of Belgrade, my home, but, a city I don’t think I would ever recommend to travelers… at least not until many, MANY things change. This book helped us, including me, a native, find the gems many Serbs haven’t explored. A few such gems included Mokra Gora, Djerdap, and any number of monasteries, many of which have recently been repaired to their original grandeur! However, not only was this book an amazing way to help make our trip easy navigation to the hidden treasures of Serbia, it was also invaluable to fill in the (many) holes in my knowledge of Serbian history. By the end of the trip, my husband, a pure-bred American, was quizzing me on things such as “the significance of Manasija Monastery…” 
In other words, I recommend this book to tourists as well as Serbian natives who wish to explore more deeply parts of their home!

This is an excellent overview of the Walt Disney theme parks and beyond. Each theme park is covered with the basics of each ride and show done there. While some complain that it is out of date that is the nature of publishing. No matter what you do you should always get a map of the theme park the day you arrive and check for new shows or rides. This book will help give you a basic idea of how much time you need to spend at each park and gives suggestions for how to spend four days in the Orlando resorts. The book does go beyond Disney to other Orlando resorts and also does a further afield section that covers the beaches and Cape Canaveral. Overall I have been very pleased and found it easy to use. I would also recommend the Top 10 Orlando guide by DK as a pocket guide for walking around Orlando.

The Southwest USA & Las Vegas travel guide is chock full of informative information, culture, and pictures in a streamline 300 page volume. Although personally, I think Las Vegas should be its own volume, I found the information about the Southwest quite helpful. I particularly appreciated the cultural information included and the fact that website addresses for most sites were included with the information blurb. This is a useful travel companion for those intending to see the four corners area and beyond!
