It also makes it easy to find the things that are important to you because the descriptions are small enough and pictures further make it easy to attract your interest or pass things by.

I love the Eyewitness series because the pictures and illustrations are both beautiful and informative. Also, I’m a visual learner so they are always appreciated. This book is no exception. If at any point I was confused about what I was looking at or where exactly I was, the images helped orientate me.

This is is even more awesome than I thought it was going to be! It’s a compact size and it has so much information and a lot of pictures which are really nice. It tells prices of activities and restaurants in the city, show you where the places are on a map. It has page full of things to do with the kids and things to do with nightlife. Everything you’d ever want about Memorials and it has maps of Smithsonian Museums, so you choose what you want to see then follow the map and go there! It has a portable map to. Also tells you the best shops and other sites just outside the city. It has Hotel choses at the very back of the book if your looking for one but It’s only 2 pages so there is still a lot to see in this book. I totally recommend buying it!!!

Once you buy your first DK Guide, you will seek them out anytime you are getting ready for a trip. My husband and I had not traveled to Massachusetts or Rhode Island previously and used the guide for much of our trip. We found it extremely helpful for the Boston Area-for the sites to see and the handy map of the “T”, which is their subway system. I also recommend purchasing the compact fold-out DK street maps of Boston, that can be purchased separately at most book stores. We used the guide throughout our stay in Plymouth, our day trips to Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and Rhode Island. As always, I love the full color pictures and descriptions of the sites. We felt that we were able to make informed decisions about the places to visit that would interest us the most. Also helpful is the Survival Section in the back that gives you much of the information that you need to know when traveling to a new area. We used the guide also for restaurant recommendations, while out driving, and were not disappointed with any of the stops we made. I plan to use the guide the next time we go back and would highly recommend it to those thinking about a trip to this beautiful area of the country.

I’ve been to Florida a hundred times, but almost always to visit relatives, and so most visits were to non-descript corners. I bought this guide after hearing a frequent British visitor to the state tell me how much he loves Florida, in hopes of being able to see the place with new eyes.
These Eyewitness guides are terrific, of course, for their photos. But the writing is also first rate, and does a better job than other guides I’ve read of making destinations sound interesting. Finally, the series are written for non-Americans, and so have comments about the place and an orientation that American-made guides miss completely.

I use travel books for research to the destinations I am going. Top 10 Athens is not just a good research tool, but a great travel companion. It is concise, well laid out and uses the limited space wisely. The clear coated maps that fold out are great guides as well as good page markers!
The book has excellent information, photography, historical relevence and numerous lists that cover many topics of interest. The top ten catagories allow you to gain quick insight into what is available especially at the time of year you may be traveling.
I have been to Athens many times, yet find a guide like this more valuable so that I can find new things to see and do.
I have been buying DK Guide books for a few years now and prefer them to others I have bought or read. I already have an Essential Athens guide, but this DK guide ‘Top 10 Athens’ is far superior. This lucky little book will get to travel to Greece this summer : )

This is an excellent overview of the Walt Disney theme parks and beyond. Each theme park is covered with the basics of each ride and show done there. While some complain that it is out of date that is the nature of publishing. No matter what you do you should always get a map of the theme park the day you arrive and check for new shows or rides. This book will help give you a basic idea of how much time you need to spend at each park and gives suggestions for how to spend four days in the Orlando resorts. The book does go beyond Disney to other Orlando resorts and also does a further afield section that covers the beaches and Cape Canaveral. Overall I have been very pleased and found it easy to use. I would also recommend the Top 10 Orlando guide by DK as a pocket guide for walking around Orlando.

The Southwest USA & Las Vegas travel guide is chock full of informative information, culture, and pictures in a streamline 300 page volume. Although personally, I think Las Vegas should be its own volume, I found the information about the Southwest quite helpful. I particularly appreciated the cultural information included and the fact that website addresses for most sites were included with the information blurb. This is a useful travel companion for those intending to see the four corners area and beyond!

With every passing European trip (I’ve now had the pleasure of touring London, Paris, the Dordogne valley, Switzerland and Sicily), I’m realizing that my travel skills are becoming sharper as is my ability to judge the merits of the dizzying array of choices of travel guides available for the travelling public.
My first choice continues to be the Eyewitness series in their TOP 10 format … in this case, “Top 10 Budapest”. I would suggest that it be complemented by the somewhat more comprehensive “Budapest”.
