Coping With Traveling Stress
We often feel excited when it comes to traveling. Many of us tend to consider traveling as an opportunity rather than danger. Sometimes however, it is no so funny. When we go by airplane, stay for hours in traffic jams, or simply have to travel for a few hours with small children – we feel stressed, in some situations we are even stressed enough to spoil the whole trip (or cause us leave an otherwise perfect job).
If you want to avoid travel-related stress, you must learn a few things.
Two best ways to minimize your stress while driving to work are: making sure you have some time in reserve and listening to the radio (or to the music you like) while driving. Soothing music and the knowledge that you are not in danger of being late to work can do wonders. Of course if you neglect that, your stress will return in no time.
Now, let’s discuss traveling with children.
Kids, especially younger, are a real pain in the neck and can easily make you furious during longer drives. Here’s what you should do to make up for their activities. First, try to travel at nights (early morning or late evening if you can’t travel at nights) when most children are asleep. If you can’t do that, make sure that they have something to do. Gameboy, board games, comic books or anything that makes them too busy to bother you will be extremely helpful.
However, do not try your luck and choose the shortest routes possible.
The last tip: your reactions influence your stress level. If you act calmly and patiently, your stress level will go down. If you during the same situation yell, it will skyrocket even though it was initially quite low. Remember that staying in a jam is an excellent way to relax a bit, not to get stressed. Your kids won’t stop screaming if you scream back and the line to a bridge won’t become even a bit faster if you get furious about it.
The bottom line is: stay calm whatever happens and try to relax every time you can. This will let you get rid of your stress while driving.
